Collection of cultural relics in the Forbidden City

The "Palace Museum" is not only a protection and management institution for the Ming and Qing Forbidden City (Forbidden City) buildings and palace historical sites, but also an institution for the collection, research and display of ancient Chinese cultural art based on the old collections of the Ming and Qing royal families. The "Palace Museum" has a complete collection of cultural relics, covering ancient and modern times, with excellent quality and rich categories. The total amount of existing collections has reached more than 1.8 million pieces (sets), mainly including Ming and Qing court cultural relics collections, ancient building collections, and book collections. The collections are divided into 25 major categories, including more than 8,000 pieces (sets) of first-class collections, which can be called a treasure house of art.

The Palace Museum is the largest treasure house of ancient artworks in China. Among the nearly one million collections, ceramics account for about 350,000 pieces. In addition, there are thousands of physical materials and more than 30,000 pieces of porcelain specimens collected by researchers of the Palace Museum from more than 150 important kilns across the country since 1949.
